Counting on Youth
Desert Valley Times, Feb. 12, 2010
Two posters created by Virgin Valley High School students will help promote and inform about the 2010 federal census.
Logan was the first place winner in the poster contest sponsored by the City of Mesquite and the Census Bureau. He was awarded $50 for his efforts. Amanda and Chloe designed the poster that was named runner-up. Winner Runner-Up
The posters have been printed up and are being posted around town.
Aaron Baker, associate planner for the City of Mesquite and the city’s liaison with the Census Bureau, said the poster competition had two purposes: to promote the census, and to increase involvement by the younger generation. He said the idea was enthusiastically received by VVHS principal Dave Wilson and other members of the staff.
The students were honored Wednesday at the monthly luncheon of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.
