The Mesquite Police Department announced Animal Control Division Manager, Joe Macias as this years recipient of the departments supervisor of the year, Detective Ron Richmond as the officer of the year, and George Steelman as volunteer of the year.
Joe Macias has worked for the City of Mesquite for the last 12 years and has run the Animal Shelter for the last seven years. Joe currently supervises one full time officer, one part time officer, and several volunteers with limited resources. Joe has worked many overtime hours when other officers were on vacation or out sick without complaining. He has done a great job networking with Mohave County and Las Vegas Metro Animal Control to facilitate their officers when they needed support with taking care of animals they would bring to the his facility as well as animals brought in by Mesquite residents.
Ron Richmond has been with the police department for 15 years and has been assigned to the Investigative Services Division for the past four years. Ron has just recently completed a two year, high profile case which he spent many hours most of which being his personal time traveling throughout the state and working with several other law enforcement agencies to get his case before the courts. Due to his diligence, Ron has made Mesquite a safer place to live.
George has been a volunteer since January 2008 and since that time has dedicated himself to the volunteer program. Each year he works anywhere from 40 to 50 of the various events that the volunteers are requested to work as well as any callouts that the department may need the volunteers to assist with. George will also patrol the city once a week assisting with accidents, parking, and placing the speed control trailer. George has also willingly lent his knowledge and technical expertise to assist the department with technical aspects of radio communication.
