Volunteers are needed to serve on ballot question committees according to Cherry Lawson, Mesquite City Clerk. Lawson said that pursuant to Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 295.217, the City of Mesquite is currently forming Ballot Question Committees to prepare arguments advocating and opposing approval of an advisory ballot question to be placed on the June 7, 2011, General Election ballot.
Lawson said that two committees will be appointed, one comprised of three citizens known to favor approval by the voters of the question and one comprised of three citizens known to oppose approval by the voters of the question. Members of the committees will serve without compensation. The term of office for each member commences upon appointment and expires upon publication of the sample ballot containing the question. Applications will be accepted only from those persons who are a resident and registered voter of the City of Mesquite at the time of the application.
