Akron, Ohio man held in Bank Robbery

Maurice Q. Cox, a 33-year-old Akron, Ohio man, was charged Monday afternoon (Nov. 8), in connection with a bank robbery at the Nevada State Bank on Friday afternoon (Nov. 5).

According to MPD Public Information Officer Robert W. Everett, after viewing surveillance video, police identified the suspect as Cox, who they had contact with earlier in the day.

The suspect fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. A manhunt throughout Mesquite followed, which included a helicopter from Las Vegas Metro. MPD contacted St. George detectives, who located and arrested Cox at the Greyhound bus station without incident.

Cox was charged with burglary, making a bomb threat and robbery with the use of a deadly weapon. Currently, Cox is being held in the Washington County, Utah Sheriff’s Facility. He is expected to be extradited this week to Clark County Detention Facility in Las Vegas. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded to the bank after being notified by bank officials.
