Clark County announces closure of the Mesquite Branch of the County Clerk’s Office effective January 14, 2012.Wednesday, January 11, 2012 Mayor Mark Wier recently received a letter dated January 3, 2012, from Diana Alba, Clark County Clerk informing him of the County’s intention to close the Mesquite Branch of the County Clerk’s office effective January 14, 2012. The letter in part states: “As you know from our prior conversations, I did not make this decision lightly, but I felt I had no choice considering the current economic climate and the very limited number of citizens who access services in Mesquite.” The Mesquite Branch has provided local residents the ability to obtain marriage licenses, filing fictitious firm names, filing notary bonds, and processing passport applications. With the exception of obtaining marriage licenses the other services can be received either through the mail, submitting fictitious firm names and notary bonds, or to receive the services locally through another agency such as processing passport applications through the Mesquite Post Office. Mayor Wier has expressed disappointment that our citizens are losing these County services locally, and the City will, working with the County look for additional ways to provide these services in a more convenient manner.
