Dogs should receive VaccinationsTuesday, April 27, 2010 Vaccinations are essential for effective dog health according to the Mesquite Animal Control Division. The most effective control measure for canine Parvo disease is a vaccination. The series of vaccinations can begin at six weeks with the Parvo vaccine, followed by a vaccination for (DHPPC) for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvo, and Coronavirus. Animal Control Officer Joe Macias said, “Dog owners need to be aware the Parvo virus can be transmitted through the feces of an infected dog. We recommend puppies be isolated at dog parks or other areas where contact could occur with an infected dog.” Macias said symptoms with the Parvo virus could include: lack of energy, loss of appetite, vomiting and diarrhea. If these symptoms occur, he recommends seeking the advice of a veterinarian. Information is available at the Pet Care Library at www.pvy.com. |
