Hours for School Crossing Guards to changeMonday, December 20, 2010 After the holiday break on Jan. 3, school crossing guard times will change to 8-9 a.m. and 3-4 p.m., according to Robert W. Everett, Public Information Officer for the Mesquite Police Department. The times for the flashing lights will remain the same in order to warn motorists of school zones located at Sandhill Boulevard & Old Mill Road and Arrowhead & West Mesquite Boulevard.
“The new hours were adjusted to coincide with the times the vast majority of the elementary students were using the crosswalks,” Everett said. “The recommendation to revise the schedule was prompted by a survey of the volunteer crossing guards.”
Chief Douglas Law thanked all the volunteers who helped as crossing guards since the beginning of school and said the City is fortunate to have citizens who donate their time as well as the Mesquite Fire & Rescue and MPD officers who have assisted the youngsters at the crosswalks to ensure their safety.
