During the annual Clerk’s meeting during the Nevada League of Cities and Towns Convention held in Mesquite on Oct. 5-7, Mesquite City Clerk Cherry Lawson, CMC was elected as the state-wide vice president of the Nevada Municipal Clerk’s Association (NMCA) for a two-year term.
The NMCA is a non-profit professional organization which has a mission to promote improvement and efficiency in the operation of the Municipal Clerk's offices; facilitate cooperation among Municipal Clerks through the interchange of experience and methods of conducting their offices; as well as, provide educational or networking opportunities for the betterment and enrichment of the Clerk profession.
Lawson earned her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation in 2003, and is currently working towards earning her Master Municipal Clerk designation, and becoming a Certified Records Manager. She holds a master degree in Public Administration, bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology, and an associate degree in Human Services in Disabilities. Lawson is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), served on the Educational Committee of the IIMC from 2006-2008 and is a member of ARMA International. She has served on the Virgin Valley Family Services Board.
Lawson has been employed with the City of Mesquite since October 2009, and has worked as a City Clerk in Sedona, Arizona and Ypsilanti, Michigan. Lawson lives in the Mesquite community with her husband, James and son, Nicholas.
