Taralee Helsten, 39, of Mesquite was charged Sunday (Nov. 7), with furnishing alcohol o minors in connection with underage drinking at her residence.
According to MPD Public Information Officer Robert W. Everett, MPD received several complaints of thefts from cars on early Sunday morning in the Desert Drive neighborhood in Mesquite. While investigating, police went to the Helsten residence and several juveniles fled out a backdoor. The juveniles were pursued and later apprehended and taken to the Mesquite Justice Facility.
Further investigation revealed other male and female youth from Mesquite and Utah were at the residence. Six juveniles from Mesquite were charged with various crimes including; possession of marijuana, underage consumption of alcohol and curfew violation. Two male juveniles from Utah were charged with various crimes including; vehicle burglary, underage consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia and curfew violation. One of the juveniles from Utah was transported to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Facility in Las Vegas while the other juveniles were released to their parents.
In working with police from Hurricane, Utah, MPD requested they question juveniles from Hurricane who were allegedly at the Helsten residence. A large amount of stolen property from the cars parked in the Desert Drive area was recovered by Hurricane Police Department.
“We always try to make a point to our citizens to lock their vehicles, store valuables in a secure location and to call the police if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood,” said Everett.
