Mesquite police were called to a local hotel at approximately 6:34 pm to a report made by an adult female guest alleging an unknown male approached her in the woman’s restroom by the swimming pool.
According to Mesquite Police Department Public Information Officer Robert W. Everett, police received a description from the victim, who stated a male followed her into the women’s restroom. As the victim and her three year old daughter were in a bathroom stall, the suspect held his hand over the stall door preventing the victim from exiting. The suspect demanded she remove her clothes. The victim told the suspect her daughter was with her and promised not to call the police.
After a few minutes, the suspect left the women’s restroom telling the victim she needed to remain there for a period of time. As the victim exited, she observed the suspect on foot going toward the casino. Once police arrived in the Security office, the victim gave a detailed description of the male suspect.
Officers were not able to locate the suspect within the confines of the casino. A short time later, at different casino, a call for service was requested for a patron of a local cab company failing to pay the fare. As police arrived, the patron who was unable to pay for the cab was recognized by the officer as fitting the description given by the victim of the alleged sexual assault.
As the officer began to question the male about the cab fare and the alleged sex offense, the suspect ran to his car and fled from the casino parking lot. The officer pursued the vehicle, which headed toward Interstate 15. As the suspect driving a 1998 Cadillac preceded onto the ramp, he failed to negotiate the turn striking the curb and damaging his tire. The pursuit entered Interstate 15 N/B when both the right and left front tires disintegrated.
