City Recreation & Parks Department Organizes NFL, Punt, Pass and Kick Competition

Mesquite area youth will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Mesquite Recreation & Parks Department hosts an NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition on Thursday, September 16, 2009, at 6:30pm, at Hunter Sports Complex, field # 3 located at 500 West Mesquite Blvd .

The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 8 to15. Nicholas Montoya, Recreation and Parks Supervisor says, This competition allows children to showcase their talents and skills in punting, passing, and kicking the football with scores based on distance and accuracy. The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick program has been a staple in the NFL for many years and we have had a few youth from the valley and surrounding areas qualify for the nationals, which are held at one of the home sites of a NFL Playoff game, Montoya adds. The age classification for participants is determined by their age as of December 31, 2010. The top finishers from each of the eight age groups at this competition will advance to a sectional competition.

No cleats are allowed during the competition, registration for the program will be taken the night of the event on location.
