Mesquite’s School Crossing GuardsMonday, April 12, 2010 Lighted stop paddles for the school crossing guards were donated to the Mesquite Police Department from the Look Out Kids About Safety Coalition in Las Vegas. According to MPD Public Information Officer Robert W. Everett, coalition members contacted the police and informed them of the $120,000 in lighted paddles being made available to crossing guards in Clark County. The lighted paddles were purchased through a grant from the State of Nevada funded by the Federal Highway Administration Office of Safety, which enabled the City of Las Vegas to make the purchase and seek reimbursement. Chief Douglas Law thanked coalition members and others responsible for the paddles saying, “The lighted paddles will allow the motorist to be more aware of the guards in the crosswalks. We continue to do everything possible to protect our children as they are going to and from school.” |
