Mesquite’s schools open August 30thThursday, August 19, 2010 With Mesquite schools opening on Monday, Aug. 30, the Mesquite Police Department is asking motorists to obey posted speed limits, especially in school zones, and to watch out for school children. School zones are clearly marked with signs (some have blinking yellow lights), and they include posted speed limits at certain times of the day or when children are present. “Our main goal is to ensure the safety of the youngsters going to and from school as well as those in and around school buses for pickup and delivery,” said MPD Public Information Officer Robert W. Everett. “Drivers must yield the right of way to the children within the crosswalk.” Nevada Revised Statue permits the Mesquite Municipal Court to double the fine for school zone speeding violators. |
