Given the current state of the economy and facing diminished revenues, the City of Mesquite requested the Labor groups to defer 50% of previously approved pay increases for fiscal year 2009-2010 to the next fiscal year and extend the expiration of the Labor Agreements for one additional year with all other components of the agreements remaining in effect.
Both Teamsters Local 14, (which represents Fire and Rescue and other City employees except for Police), and the MPOA, (which represents the sworn police officers and corrections officers), have agreed to the City’s proposal. These agreements will now expire June 30, 2011.
“The City appreciates the willingness of the Labor groups to assist the City through this challenging time--this truly shows a spirit of cooperation and teamwork and is reflective of the positive working relationship that the City has with its labor unions,” said Mesquite City Manager Tim Hacker. “These changes will save about $350,000 in payroll and benefits expenses for Fiscal year 2009/2010.”
