Bio:

Councilman Bill Wells was born in Lexington, Nebraska.  He attended the University of Nebraska graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Commission through the ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Councilman Wells attended pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma where he later became an instructor in T-33 and T-38 aircraft until late 1966.  He was assigned to F-4s at Cam Rahn Bay, South Vietnam completing 312 combat missions from March 1967 – March 1968.

Councilman Wells was assigned to Bitburg Air Base, Germany from 1968-1971 in the F-4D. His special duties included Flight Lead, Flight Commander and Stan/Eval. From 1971 – 1973.  He performed duties as a Flight Instructor and Flight Commander at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida in the F-4E. Councilman Wells attended Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. 1973 – 1974.

Councilman Wells performed duties as Operations Staff Officer at Udorn Air Base, Thailand 1974 – 1975 and followed with an assignment as a Staff Officer in the Plans and Programs at the Pentagon from 1975 – 1979.

Councilman Wells was assigned to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada as the 430th Fighter Squadron Operations Officer from 1971 – 1981 flying the F-4D.  From 1981 – 1982, he was assigned to Air Force Iceland as the Vice Commander flying the F-4E and was promoted to Colonel.

In 1983, Councilman Wells was assigned to the Headquarters Tactical Air Command as the Director of Stan/Eval flying the F-15. In 1984, he was assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida as the director of Operations in the 325th Training Wing flying F-15s and T-33s.

Councilman Wells retired from the Air Force, April 1986 as a Colonel and was selected by McDonnell Douglas to be the Site Manger at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona responsible for the development of the F-15E aircrew courseware. At the completion of this contract, he moved to Dayton, Ohio as a marketing representative for McDonnell Douglas Training Systems. In 1992, he was transferred to St. Louis to work marketing programs for the Royal Saudi Air Force. In 1994, he transferred to Khamis Mushayt Air Base, Saudi Arabia as the Site Manager for the F-15 Formal Training Unit. From August 1996 to September 1999, he served as the Regional Director for Marketing in the Boeing Middle East Regional Office, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From September 1999 to January 2001, he was the Manager of Defense Programs for CDI Corporation. CouncilmanWells retired and moved to Mesquite in July 2001 and served on the Airport Task Force Committee from August 2001 to 2005.  In 2005 he was appointed Aeronautical Advisor to Former Mayor Bill Nicholes.

Councilman Wells education includes a Masters Degree in Systems Management, University of Southern California, 1971. Masters Degree in Aviation Management, Embry Riddle, 1989. Several Air Force Professional schools and the Defense Institute Security Assistance Management, 1992.

Councilman Wells serves on the following committees:

  • National League of Cities Voting Delegate
  • Nellis Airforce Base City Liaison
