Councilman Gustaveson began his work career with Albertson’s Food Stores. From 1962 to 1976 he held numerous positions including several department head positions and Store Director for eight years. At the time of his promotion to Store Director he was the youngest Store Director in the Albertson Chain.
During his fourteen-year tenure at Albertson’s he received intense training in a number of areas, including management techniques, employee supervision, accounting and payroll, forecasting, and employee sensitivity training. He was also chosen as one of the first Store Directors to attend Albertson Advanced Top 5 Manager training in Boise, Idaho.
Councilman Gustaveson was consistently named one of the top Store Directors in operating efficiency and was chosen to have Divisional Training in his store for new checkers. He was selected to train the first woman Store Director corporate and was utilized in stores in other districts to fill in and to open new stores.
After leaving Albertson’s Councilman Gustaveson went to the Food Broker Industry. His first position was as a Sales Rep, then promoted to Sales Manager and then promoted to Account Executive/Marketing Manager. As Marketing Manager in the course of his career Councilman Gustaveson managed over 40 major Food Manufacturer Companies' product lines. In this capacity he was responsible for the regional sales, developing marketing plans, and making decisions on advertising and marketing monies to be used in the region. As a major part of his responsibility Councilman Gustaveson was required to develop a complete marketing plan, including total financials and held responsible for the results.
A few of the product lines Councilman Gustaveson managed were Kraft General Foods Kool Aid, he was number one in west in sales, Del Monte, Welch’s where he was National Account Manager two different years and National Broker of the year once, Libby’s, Green Giant, Account Executive of the year, National Broker of the year, Mars, Kal-Kan, and Uncle Ben’s Rice.
Counclman Gustaveson was promoted to Divisional Vice President and within a year to Divisional President where he was responsible for the total operations for Salt Lake City serving four states. He also had direct responsibility for Albertson’s Corporate, American Stores, Associated Food Stores, Fleming and Smith Food King Stores. He retired from the Food Broker Business in 2000.
The Gustavesons purchased a home in Mesquite in 1997 and became full time Mesquite residents in December of 2000. Since moving here his wife and he have met many wonderful people and have been involved with the community in many different ways.
