Flood Insurance

It’s Not Too Late to Secure Flood Insurance

Mesquite residents should be aware that FEMA is changing the flood plain boundaries within our City limits in the vicinity of the Virgin River effective December 4, 2007.

If your home or business is in the area which will be in the newly defined flood plain, you can purchase a flood policy before the maps are adopted. Customers who buy a policy before maps are adopted and maintain coverage can retain the lower-risk zone rate. This keeps your costs significantly lower. A policy that has maintained continuous coverage can be assigned to future new property owners which will make the property more marketable when you decide to sell.

Mesquite is one of only 8 rated communities in the State of Nevada. Our Community Rating of 7 affects the rate so policies issued for Mesquite properties enjoy a 15% reduction in normal premiums for flood insurance.

There are a total of 191 existing policies in Mesquite with a total insurance value of $45,423,800 in force. The policies have paid out on 2 losses.

Homeowners insurance doesn’t cover damage due to floods. You must have flood insurance for this protection. Your home is a major investment – protect it.
