Mike Callahan was born, raised and educated in Southern Utah, graduating from Dixie High School, Dixie College and Southern Utah State College (Southern Utah University).
In 1972 Mike began a career in retail management with 7-Eleven Stores in Las Vegas. In 1981 he returned to College attending graduate school at Utah State University obtaining a Master’s degree in Human Resources Administration in 1983. He began his human resources career as an employment supervisor at Utah State University. In 1985 Mike became the Human Resources Director for SkyWest Airlines where he was responsible for establishing the human resources function for that business. In 1993 Mike moved to the public sector when he became the Director of the office of Personnel Management for Utah County government. He has since also served as Human Resources Director for Bullhead City Arizona, Westminster College and since 2002 for the City of Yuma Arizona.
Mike has been actively involved in various professional organizations such as IPMA-HR the professional association for public sector human resources professionals where he has earned the designation of IPMA-CP which is the professional certification for that organization. In 2005 he also completed the Professional Public Manager program through Arizona State University receiving the CPM designation.
Mike and his wife Gini have five children and will soon have thirteen grandchildren as their youngest daughter is expecting her third child in May. Their two sons and six of their grandchildren live in St. George and they are very excited to be closer to them.
Mike is very pleased to be the new Personnel Director for the City of Mesquite and is committed to delivering quality services and forging positive relationships with the various employee groups, with department managers, the elected officials and the citizens of Mesquite.
