Chief Tanner started his career with the Mesquite Police Department in 1995. After serving as a Corrections Officer for a short time, he was promoted to Patrol Officer. Over the past sixteen years, he has served the department in many different capacities including; a K-9 officer (1997), Patrol Sergeant (1997), Administrative & Detective Sergeant (2005) and Lieutenant in 2008. Troy was promoted to Interim Police Chief in May 2011. He was subsequently appointed to the position of Chief of Police on September 13, 2011, unanimously voted on by City Council and Mayor.
While serving as a Lieutenant, Chief Tanner was responsible for the Detective Division, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), School Resource Officer’s, Public Information Officer, K-9 & Motor Division and other administrative duties in the day to day operations of the police department.
In March of 2009, he graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Currently, Chief Tanner is completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Management. He will graduate in December of 2011 from Grand Canyon University.
Chief Tanner is married to Rachel Tanner and together they have one adult son and three children.
